PENTAX K-1 II Sample Gallery published on dpreview.com!

“The Pentax K-1 was one of the most anticipated DSLRs in recent memory – with the K-1 II, Pentax hopes to take image quality and ISO performance to the next level. We’re presently finishing up our full review of the camera, but wanted to share some sample images, shot in and around Seattle, WA, prior to publishing.”

IMPORTANT DETAIL!

There are Pixel Shift Resolution (PSR) samples (1. Tripod-mounted + Motion Correction: ON, 2. Hand-held Dynamic PSR). But… If you look/check with their “Loupe” tool on their gallery page, you will see the strange pixelation and detail loss on exported samples. (Detail loss especially on pub shot.)

‘Some people says that “Official sources/pages are much better than the others”… Well, we tried to show how such “official” sources can do mistakes… ePHOTOzine.com did the same mistake on their PENTAX K-1 II review but we couldn’t do/show a correction ourselves because they have shared RAW files on their review without EXIF info. (Basically, softwares don’t recognize the camera settings.)’

So please check our sample exports below at “Bonus Material” section.

BONUS Material!

Used softwares;

  1. PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 5 version 5.8.1 – RAW to TIF (RAW to JPG export is enough with DCU but for maximum quality, we made those steps.)
  2. Silkypix Developer Studio Pro 8 version 8.0.20.0 – TIF to JPG
  3. Adobe Photoshop CC version 19.1.2 – 100% cropped files

RAW files processed without any extra adjustment; directly exported. Only “Motion Correction specified tool” selected for the first sample on PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 5. Hand-held Dynamic Pixel Shift Resolution sample directly exported with “Camera settings” option.

PENTAX K-1 II (with HD PENTAX-D FA 24-70mm F2.8 ED SDM WR) Review

ePHOTOzine.com review the new 36mp Pentax K-1 Mark II – the update to the full-frame K-1 – is the new model worth the upgrade?

“The Pentax K-1 Mark II, is Pentax’s update to the Pentax K-1, making it Pentax’ second full-frame Digital SLR. There are a small number of updates that have been made to the K-1, and at first glance, they are fairly minor. However, there is also an increased ISO range, and Pentax say the camera will give better image quality, improved AF performance, and improved Pixel Shift Resolution. All other DSLR features remain the same, with the same camera body which includes weather-sealing, shake-reduction sensor, a unique multi-angle screen, and compatibility with all Pentax K-mount lenses since the mid-1970s. The K-1 Mark II has a 36-megapixel full-frame sensor and to get the best results from this camera Pentax FA and other full-frame lenses are recommended.

Here’s a quick run-down of the differences between the Mark I and Mark II:

Pentax K-1 Mark II Pentax K-1 (Mark I)
New Handheld Pixel Shift mode
Upgraded Improved AF speed / performance
ISO Range ISO100 – 819200 ISO100 – 204800
APS-C fps 6.4fps 6.5fps
New Night LCD mode Added with firmware update
Battery Life 670 760

PENTAX K-1 – Review (luminous-landscape.com)

“When Pentax announced their new full frame 36mp K-1 body, I was very interested in its potential to act as a backup and sidekick to my main landscape camera, the Pentax 645Z. I was also looking for a high-resolution platform for some focal lengths that are difficult or impossible to achieve with the 645Z – particularly the ultra-wide focal lengths. I have been selling off much of my Canon equipment to fund a greater investment in gear that is optimized for landscape photography, so the K-1 was my next purchase to this end. This is my initial field review after only a few weeks of ownership. I’m not going to get too far into the weeds with the tech specs of this camera or conduct lab-style tests of image quality as I don’t have the time to do that sort of review. I’m going to focus mainly on my experiences using it in the field and the features that make or break it as a landscape photographer’s camera.”
